Our Clients’ Journies at Destination Hope
My arrival at Destination Hope was sort of a chapter out of Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events. That is to say, I arrived high and in a blackout, and was to awaken in a strange place, with strange people whom –unbeknownst to me—would later become surrogate sisters.
I never fathomed that I could be clean; that the woes of life could become bearable, that I would ever be a part of. Prior to my time at Destination Hope I believed that my problem was the world. The world and all its deafening cries for status, idealistic beauty, fame, and conventions were why I refused to grow up. I still believed I was in control of my fate… I was so very wrong. The women at Destination Hope acted as the chisels that would commence the demolition of the façade I had began constructing in childhood fantastical daydreams and the strangely idealistic fables I told anyone who would listen.
While at D.H. I began the long grueling process of facing me. D.H. provided me with a safe place and women that understood. I was finally able to loosen my grip on the lies I had once used to convince myself that things just weren’t that bad; that drugs would provide me the wings I dreamed about. The counselors at Destination Hope provided guidance to me as well as my family. They helped me to bolster the courage I needed to speak. To find the voice that had been muffled by my disease. My introduction to twelve step meetings allowed me to become acquainted with the recovery process. I obtained a sponsor while in house and began working the steps. Completing the program at Destination Hope was the first retaliatory act I had ever taken toward my disease. Though at first I came to scoff, I certainly remained to discover that my destination truly is hope. – Crystal

Dear Thomas,
I would like to thank you and the staff at Destination Hope for everything that you have done for me and Megan.
I still remember the numerous phone calls you had with me and with the hospital, where Megan was a patient. You were very instrumental in making the transition easy for us and put our minds at ease. It was very unsettling sending my 22 year old daughter the long way from NJ to FL. You had Keith pick us from the airport at 9:00pm, drive us to detox and then drive me back to my hotel room, all so I could see Megan off. Kim, your therapist, was very helpful along with Ms. Angie, Ms. Juanita, Jim, Chris and all the others there. Destination Hope gave us a good foundation that I hope Megan can build upon. Everyone at Destination Hope was very helpful to my daughter and to me. I would recommend this program to those who are in need. Please feel free to give my cell phone number as a reference to other families who are considering sending their loved one to you.
Thanks again to everyone at Destination Hope!
Sincerely, Frank

Alison,
Hi There! Well, it’s been just a little over a month since I left Destination Hope and I’m doing great! I’m still here at Royal Recovery and moving into this half-way house was probably one of the smartest decisions I’ve made in a long time. The staff at Royal is exceptional and their ‘easy to abide by’ rules aren’t such a terrible way to live.
The structure they provide is perfect for anyone looking for a reintroduction to learning to live sober. I’m happy to inform you that I’m doing so well and I really want you and everyone at Destination Hope to know how much I appreciate your help and giving me the tools to turn my life around.
Also, I want to thank you for guiding me to such a secure and enjoyable safety net – Royal Recovery. I’m sending you an imaginary big hug for your care and compassion for me while I was in your care. You’re Awesome!
Love, Christine L.
