Community members can attend by making a tax-deductible donation of just $20.
Guardian Behavioral Health is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Sylvia Brafman Mental Health Center and our treatment centers. The organization is dedicated to helping individuals living with mental illness and helping them get the services and medications they need. The Party for a Purpose event launches off a month-long campaign aimed at raising awareness about mental health. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. It is estimated that 20% of American adults live with a disabling mental illness, many of which are manageable with treatment. However, if left untreated, these illnesses can become debilitating and even lead to substance abuse. In Florida, about 50% of the money spent on mental health is spent on institutional care. Benjamin Brafman, CEO of Destination Hope, notes that providing the community with financial and clinical support for mental health is more cost-effective and can help these individuals long-term. Guardian Behavioral Health is one of the leaders in raising awareness, linking patients with services and providing financial assistance for those suffering from a mental health illness.
Last year, Guardian Behavioral Health brought together over 200 community leaders, city officials and professionals for its inaugural Mental Health Symposium. The symposium focused on tackling key issues providers and patients struggle with regularly. Other events by Guardian Health, such as its annual kickball tournament, also serve to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of mental health disorders. Buy your tickets for Party of a Purpose online at www.guardianbehavioral.org/. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on the day of the event for $25.
