Family Program

It is very rare that a drug or alcohol addiction will affect only the addict. Chemical dependency takes its toll on the friends, family and people who are closest to the addicted individual. Drugs and alcohol cause a variety of behavioral changes, which can lead to an addict taking desperate measures to fuel their addiction – measures which can harm themselves or others. We frequently treat clients who have little interaction with their families or whose relationships have been strained by poor communication and lack of understanding. It is these strained relationships that in turn can fuel the addict to once again turn to drugs, even after a successful course of treatment.

At our drug and alcohol rehab facility, we believe that just as the family was hurt by substance abuse, so too it can be reformed and strengthened by fighting drug or alcohol addiction as a unit. This perseverance starts by turning feelings of stress and frustration into encouragement and love. As previously stated, addiction rarely affects only the addicted individual – as such, the treatment and recovery should involve those affected most. During our family sessions, we can often find the root cause of the problem – what may have led a person to substance abuse in the first place.  We then couple this with effective individual and group counseling sessions where the client and their family can start to re-shape their relationship.

The road to recovery is fragile, but with support, patience and an open heart, great strides can be made in a short period of time. Meaningful sobriety is the type that outlasts the temptations we all experience on a daily basis. For a person going through drug and alcohol treatment, a supportive community of family and friends can be the difference between continued recovery and relapse.
