Percocet Drug Rehab

What is Percocet?

Percocet Drug RehabThe major brand name of Endo Pharmaceutical’s (North America) acetaminophen and oxycodone blend narcotic painkiller is Percocet.  It is used to treat moderate to severe short-term (acute) pain and is a synthetic opiate-based analgesic or painkiller.  Because of the fact that it is so widely prescribed for pain, it is widely distributed and trafficked illegally.  Along with several other prescription painkillers, the DEA now considers Percocet as a major drug threat in several states.

Percocet addiction and its consequences

The euphoric pleasure that Percocet provides the user with is what typically leads to many of the addictions we are seeing today, especially among the individuals that are not taking it for medicinal purposes.  Prolonged Percocet use of even 2 to 3 weeks can be enough to create the addiction and the strong cravings for using the drug.  Today, most addiction treatment and recovery centers have Percocet drug rehab programs because the number of reported cases involving addiction to this drug is growing.

The following is a list of the major side effects or symptoms which should be considered as signs of a Percocet addiction existing should these appear on a continual basis:

  • constipation
  • constricted pupils
  • depression
  • dizziness
  • drowsiness or light-headedness
  • euphoria
  • exaggerated feelings of invincibility and well-being
  • itchy skin
  • nausea and vomiting
  • skin rashes
  • slowed breathing

Percocet creates dependencies that are both physical and psychological.  Additionally, the sudden discontinuation of its use can result in dramatic withdrawal symptoms including convulsions and seizures.  These withdrawal symptoms can start happening within 6 to 8 hours after the individual has discontinued using the drug.  Our Percocet drug rehab programs for women are geared to help you through this trying period when treating you for your addiction.

Depending on the severity of the addiction, a medical detoxification may be required, especially if the following withdrawal symptoms are occurring once the use of the drug has been stopped:

  • anxiety
  • fever
  • flu-like symptoms
  • gastrointestinal distress
  • insomnia
  • muscle pain
  • nausea and vomiting
  • runny eyes and nose
  • sweating

Our Percocet drug rehab programs know that treatment and recovery from this addiction is anything but a pleasant experience.  Our caring and knowledgeable staff members here at our facility will do everything they can to see that the process goes as smoothly as possible.
