GHB Drug Rehab
What exactly is GHB?
GHB stands for gamma hydroxybutyrate. It is derived from 4-hydroxybutanoic acid and sodium oxybate which is also called ?-Hydroxybutyric acid. The substance naturally occurs in the human central nervous system as well as in almost all animals (small amounts), beef, the smaller citrus fruits, and wine. It is a depressant which affects the central nervous system. Additionally, it is often recognized by the following street names:
- G
- Georgia Home Boy
- Grievous Bodily Harm
- Liquid Ecstasy
For decades, it was originally used as an anesthetic or sleeping aid primarily in Europe. In the US today, it is oftentimes prescribed to treat narcolepsy. Due to the drug’s abuse potential and the development of much newer, highly effective drugs, it has fallen from favor amongst numerous medical circles.
The long and short-term effects of GHB
GHB is another one of those substances that is classified as a “club” drug along with Ecstasy and has become a recreational favorite among the younger club and rave crowd. Over longer periods of time, GHB displays the following side effects:
- comas
- difficulty in decision making and thinking
- hallucinations
- liver failure
- respiratory problems that can be potentially fatal
- seizures or tremors
- slurred speech
Additionally, there are short-term effects that are displayed such as:
- breathing difficulties
- drowsiness
- hallucinations
- muscle control loss
- nausea and vomiting
Women and GHB addiction
As the popularity of Ecstasy grew in the past decade or so, so too did the popularity grow with GHB. It has become such a popular club drug that a number of the addiction treatment and recovery centers throughout the US now offer GHB drug rehab programs. The problem is most of them do not accommodate women who are addicted to the drug. There are a lot of differences between men and women where substance addiction is concerned and our women’s drug rehab center realized this. That is why all of our programs are geared to helping women overcome their different substance addictions.
The key differences involve different health concerns between men and women as well as how the different addictions progress. Our women’s GHB drug rehab programs were developed to facilitate the needs of women who are suffering with GHB addiction. We use the right combination of goal-oriented programs that are conducted in a comfortable environment.
Our high success rate is evidence of that fact.
