Cocaine Drug Rehab
The cocaine drug threat
According to the DEA report published near the end of 2009, cocaine in either crack or powder form is one of the primary drug threats in the US today along with heroin, MDMA’s (club drugs such as Ecstasy), and methamphetamines. Additionally, there are millions of reported cases of serious illnesses, overdoses, and death associated with cocaine abuse and addiction. Cocaine addiction is now viewed as a major public health threat as well. The prevalence of cocaine abuse and addiction in society today has caused the implementation of cocaine drug rehab programs at most addiction treatment and recovery centers.
Women and cocaine addiction
What most people fail to realize is the potential health risks involved with cocaine abuse and addiction. Today, cocaine abuse and addiction has become as prevalent among women as it has among men. In fact, current studies from 2009 involving middle class women prove that cocaine addiction among them has doubled over the two years prior to that. Cocaine begins as an initial joy when you first start using the drug based on how it makes you feel.
However, that joy eventually turns into a living nightmare filled with high dependency issues, the driving force to obtain more of the substance, and living in emotional and physical pain. You have a better chance of suffering convulsions when you become addicted to cocaine as well as doubling your chances of having a heart attack or a stroke. When cocaine is ingested with alcohol the effects are intensified and increase the “hit” or the effect on the brain.
Other significant side effects that have been documented are anxiety and panic attacks, nose bleeds (from snorting the powder), and sleep disorders. So why is it that so many more women today are abusing and getting addicted to cocaine? One of the reasons stems from the fact that there are more women in the workforce today encountering the stresses of career life. Additionally, many of these women are single moms raising children and the only wage earner in that home. The pressures build up which creates stress and this can lead to the onset of the addiction.
