The Power of Addiction Intervention

Addiction intervention is defined by Mayo Clinic as “a carefully planned process involving family and friends and sometimes colleagues and others who care about a person struggling” with substance abuse dependence. “During the intervention, these people gather together to confront the person about the consequences of addiction and ask him or her to accept treatment.” It can be difficult to confront a loved one about their addiction for a variety of reasons. In fact, you’ve probably tried to confront them in the past and they may have reacted badly, lied about the severity of their alcohol or drug problem or maybe they gave you empty promises that they would seek treatment and never did. Drug and alcohol addicts often require an addiction intervention from their friends and family to go to rehab, as they live in a world where they mistakenly think their habits aren’t detectable and don’t have an effect on their loved ones.
